Mr Don Wilton trained at Leary's Pharmacy, Palmerston North. he completed his 4 year apprenticeship in two years, at age 19 years, but had to wait until he was 21 (in 1926) before he could be registered and practice as a pharmacist. In 1927, he became a partner in Leary's Pharmacy, which was established in 1875. With son Graham in the business, it was decided to change the name to Wilton's Pharmacy. In 1976 a new Wilton's Pharmacy was built on Broadway Avenue. Mr Wilton oversaw the training of many pharmacists over the years, and was a founder of the Manawatu Wanganui Chemist Service.
