Buildings on Church Street: [1] Evening Standard Building was erected after the 1891 fire and was replaced in 1937. The Evening Standard moved into this building between 1903-1910. [2] The Council Chambers and Public Library were housed in this old Colonial Bank (beside All Saints). The library was moved in 1905. This building is now Square Edge. [3] All Saints Church was built in 1878; its spire was erected in 1882. The present brick building was built in 1914. [4] The Grand Hotel was built in 1906 after the Provincial Hotel burnt down. [5] The Manawatu Daily Times was moved into this space in the 1890s and the newspaper remained here until 1913. The gun in the Square opposite the Grand Hotel was put there in May 1909. The Lakelet constructed in October 1909 is missing. The little round building in the Square (left) is the observatory.
