Lord Galway, accompanied by the Mayor of Palmerston North, Gus Mansford, greeting the crowds of well wishers. Lord and Viscountess Galway were given a civic welcome to Palmerston North after his appointment as Governor General of New Zealand on 12 April 1935. Lord Galway (1882-1943) was Governor General 1935-1941.
