Leslie Weston-Webb was born at Scarborough, England, in 1905. The son of a well-to-do English yarn merchant, Leslie emigrated to New Zealand with two brothers, Barry and Geoffrey, in 1924. Other siblings migrated to Canada and Australia. Leslie settled in Bunnythorpe where he purchased the local garage. Barry and Geoffrey settled in Auckland. As denoted by the wings on his lapel, Les was a member of the local and Hawkes Bay aero clubs.
