A simple 150 seat Baptist Church was opened in Palmerston North on 4 April, 1895. In 1904 it was moved back and a new, two-storey front with spires was added, as seen in this photograph. Again, in 1928 part of this building was moved back on the section for use as a hall and a new brick church (now Abbey Theatre, 2007) was constructed.
