The Royal Hotel stands on the site originally occupied by Dawick’s Buffett. In 1913 the license from the Royal Hotel on the corner of Rangitikei and Street and The Square was transferred to the Buffet which then became the “New Royal Hotel”. In 1971 a tavern license was obtained and since then the premises have been known as the Royal Tavern.
