Fitzherbert Bridge Construction
The second Fitzherbert Bridge replaced the original, built in 1877. Begun in 1933 it was opened 20 July 1935. It consisted of seven 55-foot beam span and four 112 ft bowstring arch spans and was approximately 911 feet long and 40 feet at its widest. It cost ₤36,000 to construct, of which the City Council paid ₤6,000. The bridge was demolished in 1988, after completion of the third bridge across the Manawatu River.
