Threshing mill at work, Penny's Line

This Clayton and Shuttleworth mill was owned by John Henson and his partner, John Gifford. Both Gifford and Henson farmed on Pennys Line in the Mount Stewart area and were in partnership as agricultural contractors for some years. It is thought the photograph was taken on John Henson’s farm which besides sheep breeding had 400 acres of harvest, including rye-grass, crested dog's tail, and grain. The man in the foreground (white shirt) is probably Mr Loris Matthews, a cousin of Wilfred and Leroy Henson, who lost his left arm in World War One.
