Fritz Braunsted

Fritz Braunsted

The caption in the scrapbook reads "Had his leg cut off by a tree". Fritz arrived as a single man on the ship "England" in 1871. About six months later (spring 1871), he had his leg severed by a falling tree. This was documented in the "Wellington Independent" of the day. He obtained a wooden leg. It is not known what became of him, however, in 1879 there was a rate arrears notice published by the Manawatu Road Board, and his name was on it.
