Ashhurst School opened in September 1879, with Mr F. Whibley as the temporary head teacher. The first permanent head teacher was Mr Alfred Gower (1880-1887).

Handwritten diary of Ann ('Nan') Kathleen Jacques, nee Jobson (31 December 1894 - 27 August 1994). She immigrated to New Zealand from England in 1928 with her husband William Jacques, who had been appointed to the staff of the new Massey Agricultural College.
