Nō hea ngā rauemi o Manawatū Heritage?

Where does the content from Manawatū Heritage come from?

The Heritage Team looks after the Ian Matheson City Archives - the repository for the Palmerston North City Council and Community Archives. It holds a wealth of material relating to the development of Palmerston North and its citizens and their lives, from its earliest days in the 1870s to the present day.

In 2007, the Ian Matheson City Archives began an internal digitisation programme, displayed through Pātaka Ipurangi, our previous digital repository. In 2016 we launched Manawatū Heritage, aimed at gathering records directly from the community as well as better showcasing our own holdings. Digitisation is ongoing, and new material is continually added to the online collection.

In addition to content from the Ian Matheson City Archives, any photographs contributed by the users to the website through the Upload or Write pages are added to the collection.

About the use of language

Manawatū Heritage aspires to reflect the diversity of our community and its unique heritage through its content as well as through its language. With this in mind, the navigation of this site can be accessed in Te Reo Māori and English. You may also find items in the collection with multilingual descriptions.
