This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 14 December 1960 "Christmas shoppers are becoming more evident this week. Large crowds, mostly women, appear to be making last-minute attempts to buy presents. This photograph shows a normally quiet crossing in the mornings, well patronised by women shoppers."
