This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 19 January 1961: "Nurse N.M. Bergen, who gained top honours in New Zealand for the State final nursing examinations held in November-December last year, photographed at the Palmerston North Hospital today. The examination was held for the last time under the old curriculum. Today is Nurse Bergen's last day at the hospital. She is to be married in two weeks time to Mr. Donald Burns, of Carnarvon. Nurse Bergen, whose home town is Marton, has done all her training at the Palmerston North Hospital. Out of an original class of 20 girls, 16 sat the examination and 14 were successful. Throughout New Zealand 115 nurses sat the test. In the State final examinations held six months previously, Nurse Jill Brown, who was originally in Nurse Bergen's class gained top honours in the Dominion."
