-
This image was published in the August 27th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption: “Ms Gray with issue number ne of ‘Hard Times’.”
An excerpt from the article read: “A ‘union for the unemployed’ is about to be formed in Palmerston North. Jobless people are putting together their own newspaper in the city as well. And planning for a seminar on the unemployed, to be held in Palmerston North, is also under way. The co-ordinator of the Palmerston North Unemployed Support Centre, Mr Brian Freestone, said these events represent the increasing concern of the city's unemployed for their future. The "union for the unemployed’ idea was born from a series of group discussions for jobless people which began on August 17. The discussions are for people aged up to 25, and are being held at Frank's Pool Rooms, Broadway, every Thursday at 2.00 p.m., one of the centre's helpers, Susan Gray, told the ‘Tribune’.”
