This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 12 December ber 1955: "Gay, fancy costumes took the place of normal school attire for the gala end-of-year social for Russell Street School pupils last night. Puppet shows, films and community singing led to a bountiful supper. Just before the picture above was taken, the pupils had farewelled their popular headmaster (Mr. M.F. Henry), his wife, the former infant mistress and Miss P.M. Hastings, who has been on the staff for fourteen and a half years."
