“Anti-Booze M.P. Visits Massey Research Unit”
- Description
-
This image was published in the May 7th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption “Mr Fraser (centre) inspects Massey's alcohol research unit with Professor Batt (right) and Dr Stowell.
An excerpt from the article read: “The present blood alcohol legal limit for drinking drivers is too high at 100 mg/100 ml - and the Labour Party's big campaigner against alcohol, Mr T. Young, would like to see it reduced by a fifth - or even halved. Mr Young, the MP for Lower Hutt and Labour's Junior Whip, visited Massey University's alcohol research centre this week. He was in Palmerston North to support the campaign of the two Labour Party candidates for the Manawatu and Palmerston Noth seats.
…
Mr Young visited the Massey research unit primarily because of his concern about alcohol usage in New Zealand - and also to gain knowledge about the research work being done for the future. He met and talked with Professor R. D. Batt, the man in charge of the Massey research unit, and also Dr Allan Stowell, who will be presenting a paper on alcohol research to an international conference in Zurich next month.”
