This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 28th March, 1963. "Two city pipe bands left early this morning on their way to Rotorua. They will compete in the national championships which will be held from Friday until Sunday. The top photograph shows the Manawatu Scottish Society's Pipe Band which will compete in the B grade, and the lower group is the City of Palmerston North Pipe Band, which will complete the C grade."
