This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 05 September 1961 "This locomotive, mounted on its own concrete dais at Linton Camp, is the last steam locomotive operated by the Corps of the Royal New Zealand Engineers. It is mounted and preserved as a memorial to the men of the Light Railway Operating Company of the 1914-18 war, and the Railway Operating Group of the 1939-45 war. The engine was built in Leeds (England) for the Public Works Department in New Zealand in 1911, and has had a chequered career. Fourteen feet long and weighing eight tons, the engine started service on railway construction at Waiotira (North Auckland) in 1921. Since then it has served at Panassus (North Canterbury) and on the Hutt estuary reclamation. From 1940 until 1943 the engine lay derelict in gorse bushes, and in 1943 was transferred to Waiouru Camp. In 1947 it was purchased by the Army Department and served in Waiouru until 1958, when it was withdrawn from service and mounted where it now stands at Linton."
