“Unfulfilled? Josie Has Some Advice For You”

These images were taken for the August 27th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper – the first of which was published.
An excerpt from the article read: “Life was winding down for Josie Jones eight years ago. Her children were growing up and moving on, she'd accomplished most of the things housewives set out to do. At the age of 42, there wasn't much to look forward to. It's a situation that many women get into. Many of them just ‘fall into limbo’. It’s different for men – there are plenty of service clubs and the like for them. And they can keep on working. But for women – well, Plunket, school committees, and the PTA were about all there was for women.”
‘Women’s usefulness appears to decrease with advancing years.’ She said. Then, she and a group of friends decided to form the 13th Toastmistress’ Club in New Zealand. That was in 1970.”
…
“Her experience with Toastmistress clubs has led to another field, and one in which thousands of New Zealand women recognise: she's one of regular panel on Television One's "Beauty. and the Beast. She’s been with the programme for two years, and loves every minute of it. Josie Jones is an effusive character. She thanks the Toastmistress organisation for giving her the chance to live more. It’s something that a lot of other women need, she adds. ‘Half the time you are as good as you think you are.’ She said. ‘You only need a bit of confidence to go out and show it.”
