“Art Gallery Turns on Monster Book Sale”
- Description
-
This image was published in the November 19th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption: “Karen Absolon, a Massey student, and Roger Mullins, a Victoria University student, help out in the huge task of getting the donated books into some semblance of order.”
An excerpt from the article read: “Ten thousand books turned the Manawatu Art Gallery into a temporary library last week – but they’ve all gone now. The books were donated by Palmerston North people in three weeks and sold last Friday and Saturday (November 10, 11), to boost the gallery's building fund coffers. The gallery's director, Mr Luit Bieringa, said that proceeds from the monster book sale would go to the gallery's $80,000 building fund.”
This image forms part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
