"Crushing Win To Manawatu”
- Description

These images were taken for the Evening Standard, the first of which was published on the 26th August 1974 with the caption: “Manawatu's big prop Roy Roberts sets sail for the line during yesterday's rugby league representative match against Hawke’s Bay at Memorial Park. In Manawatu's 55-24 win Roy scored four tries and kicked three conversions for a total of 18 points. It is all Manawatu in this photograph, as backing him are Mike Bustler (left), John McIntosh, and Willie Henry.”
An excerpt from the accompanying article read: “Manawatu scored a mighty double on Sunday, as it finished the 1974 representative season on a winning note. The Manawatu B side was successful in achieving a well deserved 27-19 victory over its Hawke's Bay counterpart, and this was followed by a great 55-24 win by Manawatu over Hawke's Bay.
For captain coach Augie Rewi, playing his 50th representative match for Manawatu, it was a disappointing game as he had to leave the field after about 30 minutes of play with a leg injury.
However it must have been a thrill for him to see the performance which Manawatu turned on. Roy Roberts and Willie Henry did the bulk of the scoring, with Roberts bagging four tries and three conversions for 18 points and Henry getting four tries and five conversions for 22 points.
Manawatu scored 13 tries to six against Hawke's Bay and this shows the clear dominance of the local team. With plenty of ball to play with. Manawatu called the tune throughout and most of Hawke's Bay’s attacks came from Manawatu mistakes.”
