This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 01 February 1961: It is not often that a photographer is able to get an "inside" shot in the lions' arena. A "Manawatu Standard" man was invited to attend Wirths' Circus last night, and the tamer, Mr. Mervyn King was able to get his charges to smile."
