The caption on a published photograph read: "TWO special people, Ricci Bradey and Rosalynn Carter, share a special hug in Palmerston North this morning. The former United States first lady made a half-hour visit to the Crippled Children’s Society in Main Street where she charmed adults and children alike with her special brand of compassion.”
Rosalynn Carter (nee Smith) spent 5 decades advocating for causes in mental health and caregiving support among many others. Together with her husband, former President of the United States Jimmy Carter, she founded the Carter Center – which works today to foster world peace and health programmes. Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100 on 24 December 2024. Rosalynn passed a year earlier, on 19 November 2023.
