This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 11 December 1962, "The top photograph shows the party of 27 ratings and two officers from the French frigate Francis Garnier which berthed in Wellington yesterday and sails for Noumea on Thursday. The sailors made a brief tour of the Wellington Province and stayed in Palmerston North for dinner today. The sailors are seen on the stage at the clock tower soon after their arrival at 12.30 p.m. In the lower picture shown are: Mr C. Bird, Sub-Lieutenant Maurice Argouse, Mr L. Sands,Sub-Lieutenant Joel Courtois and Mr. P. Cantlon. Messrs Bird, Sands and Cantlon are all members of the Ex-Royal Navalmen's Association in Palmerston North, which were the hosts."
