The first meeting in the new Council Chamber for Palmerston North was presided over by the Mayor, Brian Elwood. Palmerston North jazz pianist, Ron Glen, played a selection of jazz items at the end of the formal opening of the new Council Chamber, on 20 December 1979. The bulding was dedicated by Mr David Brown, President of the Palmerston North Minister's Association.
