"The first few hundred metres of Manawatu's biggest road race: More than 900 people enjoyed perfect conditions to endure 21km of running or walking the annual Manawatu Marathon Clinic half marathon yesterday morning. Race winner Phil Costley (no787) is pictured in the foreground running alongside second-placegetter Mark Lenihan (no.253). The pair set a blistering pace early on and battled each other for much of the race. Costley won in 1hr 7mins 45sec with Lenihan 15 seconds back. Rimutaka Harriers' Mike Walton was third. Scottish Harriers' (Wellington) Bernie Portens was the first woman across the finish line. Photo by Graeme Brown."
