This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 15 August 1961 "R. Martin (Victoria) and M. Woods (Canterbury) thrust and parry during the fencing competition of the New Zealand Universities' winter tournament today. The wool room at Massey College reverberated to the clash of foils and the stamping of feet as the opponents drove and lunged at each other. [In the background] the stern eye of the judge misses nothing."
