This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 10 November 1960 "Former local man to study art in Florence. A Palmerston North man who has been in London since 1957, Mr. Pat Hanley, the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Hanley , of Marne Street, has been awarded an Italian Government scholarship to study for eight months in Italy. He was educated a the, Palmerston North Boys' High School and the Queen Elizabeth College and studied at the University of Canterbury in 1952. He is 28 years old. Despite a tremendous output of work from his studio in Chelsea he has had to supplement his income with other work. Recently, however, he received two chances for financial assistance."
