This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 10 November 1960 "Former local man to study art in Florence. A Palmerston North man who has been in London since 1957, Mr. Pat Hanly, the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Hanly , of Marne Street, has been awarded an Italian Government scholarship to study for eight months in Italy. He was educated at the Palmerston North Boys' High School and the Queen Elizabeth College and studied at the University of Canterbury in 1952. He is 28 years old. Despite a tremendous output of work from his studio in Chelsea he has had to supplement his income with other work. Recently, however, he received two chances for financial assistance."
