This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 26 December 1962, "Christmas shoppers crossing the intersection of the Square and Rangitikei Street on Monday. Few shoppers were seen with substantial parcels. It appeared as though most people had made their purchases and spent the day buying extras or small forgotten items."
