During the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020 many of the community put teddy bears and other soft toys in their windows. The idea was that families with small children could walk around their local area and look out for bears. Exercising in your local area was one of the few reasons people were allowed to leave their homes, apart from accessing groceries or other essential services. While doing so they had to keep a distance of 2m from people not from their home at all times to avoid spread of the virus. The bear hunt idea was related to the children's storybook 'We're going on a bear hunt' by Michael Rosen and was shared widely on Facebook around the world. Prime Minister Jacinda Arden even displayed a teddy bear in the window at her home. Pictured is a toy bunny in the window at Ashhurst Library, captured by an Ashhurst Librarian.
