This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 15 August 1961 "Tauranga (right), the winners, and Palmerston North, the runners-up, in the Palmerston North Rover Scouts' wheelbarrow marathon from Ashhurst to Palmerston North on Saturday, are shown holding the trophy which was presented to the winning team by the Mayor (Mr. G.M. Rennie). The trophy is a miniature stainless steel wheelbarrow and it is hoped the marathon will become an annual event. The winners' time for the eight miles was one hour and three minutes. From the left are: E. Carr and N. Goodwin (Palmerston North); the Mayor, and V. Ronowicz and B. McDonald, of Tauranga."
