Description: These images were taken for the Evening Standard, the first of which was published on the 7th of April 1975 with the caption “Commonwealth Games heavyweight boxer Fisi Brown, this time decked out in a Marist rugby league jersey, receives the attentions of numerous Suburbs players during their match at Memorial Park on Saturday. Tackling Brown is the Suburbs English importee Mike Stockdale. This encounter was won by Marist 35-15.”

Therefore, the Headline does not refer to the pictured Marist v Suburbs match. The accompanying article discussed Marist v Suburbs, Takaro v Kia Ora, Feilding v Massey and Levin v Marton.

An excerpt from the article read: “Takaro, Marist, Feilding and Levin made the semifinals of the Ludeman Cup rugby league knock-out competition on the first day of matches on Saturday.”

“The Marist-Suburbs encounter was probably the best of the day. Marist eventually go on top to win 35-15 but not until after the score had remained close, and then at 15-all until well into the match.

At one stage it appeared Marist may be penalised out of the game and had Suburbs taken the opportunities of points in front of the posts, the complexion of the game may have changed. However the Marist backline always had the edge of its counterpart and when Suburbs standoff Willie Wilson left the field just after halftime, the backline collapsed.

Centre Dicky Uluave shone for Marist and did most of the damage. Fisi Brown will not be appearing regularly for Marist, but had a solid match at fullback.

Tries for Marist went to: D. Uluave (3), M. Uluave (1), O. Parker (1), R. Catonhead (1) and D. Pereira also kicked two penalties and five conversions.

Suburbs scorers were: В. Speer (2), P. Manley 1). S. Matchitt kicked two penalties and one conversion.”
