Foundations and Mangaore Stream - Manghao Electric Power Scheme
- Description
This view shows the foundations being laid for the power house and the Mangaore Stream diverted to its new channel alongside the power house site. In the left background a cut along the face of the ridge can be seen, marking the site of the future pipeline to the power house. The Mangahao Power Station provides hydroelectric power and is situated near the town of Shannon. It serves Wellington, Horowhenua, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, and the Wairarapa. After being delayed by the first world war construction began in late 1919 and the station opened in November 1924.
