Description

The new Electricity Department workshop, which cost $850,000 to build, was situated on the corner of Main Street and Cook Street. Mr Holland, the Minister of Electricity, opened the workshop 16 February 1977. The workshop covered an area of 9,000 square metres and was divided into three mains areas – garage servicing, electrical and mechanical workshops and offices. The workshops served the Palmerston North electrical district from Wellington to Waitara. (This building now houses the Spotlight craft & home furnishing store)
