Sport has been a massive part of his life. Wasn’t involved in move to professional sport but stayed with amateur sport. Money is the motivation to play professionally. Played golf mid teens. Believes that today there is more emphasis on winning. “Losing is not acceptable.” Horse racing was big. Radio was able to promote local sports. Not much coverage given to women’s sport in the earlier days. Seven day shopping had a huge influence on sport. Russell covered national sport as a commentator.
