“Chinese Delegation Calls On P.N. Factory”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the November 5th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption: “Works Manager Colin Kennedy (left) points out features of two 5000-gallon fermentation tanks to members of the Chinese delegation. Beside him is the company’s refrigeration manager, Jon Jenkins, while the company's manager, Mr Colin Smart, talks to members of the delegation. The two refrigerated stainless steel wine fermentation tanks were each worth $13,000, and part of a 16-tank order bound for the Montana vineyards at Blenheim.”
The short article read: “Ten Chinese Government advisers inspected machinery and equipment at the Palmerston North firm of Mauri Engineering. The Chinese delegation is touring New Zealand looking at agricultural equipment and visited the Palmerston North firm because of its world-wide reputation for dairy and process machinery, Mauri Engineering, formerly known as Berry Engineering, has been operating since 1907. It has a big involvement in Export Year and feels that this, plus the visit of the Chinese delegation, will have long-term benefits to New Zealand and the group of Mauri Brothers and Thompson Companies. The Chinese delegation was accompanied by five New Zealand Government representatives during its tour of the company’s Ferguson Street factory.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
