The front of this postcard shows about forty soldiers posed informally in front of tents. It was written by Henry Ward, who served with the New Zealand Medical Corps, No. 3 Field Ambulance, from March 1917 to March 1919, to Eva Eastwood, who he married in June 1919. The message reads: My Dear Eva
I will not be able to write you a letter after tomorrow night so thought I would write on the back of this photo this is a photo of our first time to go out of camp which I told you before in one of my letters. You will see a little chap in front of me without a hat, that is Harry. He is a fine chap would you like me to get you views of Palmerston North on these photos dear I do not mind you tell me which you like Dear Best that is my new friend which has just come into camp which came to our table he is on the left with a cap on as well my Dear I am out for a dinner. I went to church the morning and was as out to dinner and tea and they are treating one as a king they are the Rev Keall that used to be at minister at Thames and have a good talk they want me to address the S.S. but I broke my false teeth so cannot talk very plain so they ask me to take it later on well Darling. I will have to close this or you will never read it. XXXX
