- Description
-
These images were taken for the August 20th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper – the first of which was published with the caption: “Board members, Messrs W. G. Thurston (partially obscured, left), Mr I. A. Barnett, and Mr N. R. Abraham (right), prepare for their trip to Wellington. In the background is the board's soil conservator, Mr M. K. Holland.”
An excerpt from the article read: “The Manawatu Catchment Board went to Parliament last week - and it was the first time a catchment board had made such a visit. For the board members weren’t just going to see one MP, or even two or three They were going to meet eight of them. They weren't even going their [sic] with the intention of seeing a Minister, but that's what happened. And they had ‘no particular axe to grind either’, said the board's chief soil conservator, Mr Morrie Holland. They just wanted to let MPs know what the board does, and how important it and other boards, are to the country. ‘It was just a bit of public relations really.’ Mr Holland said.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
