This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 27th November 1965 "Among the exhibits at The Manawatu Floral Art Japanese exhibition this week was the interesting collection on loan from Miss D. Aldrich, of Victoria Avenue, Palmerston North. All have an interesting historical association between Japan and New Zealand around the turn of the century.
[These are} -- gifts to Miss Aldrich's grandfather (Mr. A.D. Aldrich) who spent 25 years in Japan before returning to New Zealand as the first Japanese Consul in 1896."
