Description

Hans Callesen arrived at Karere on March 23, 1868, when he was 22 years old. He came to work for Bishop Monrad. Hans Callesen left Slesvig to avoid living under German rule and enforced service in the German Army. Front row: Hans Callesen; baby Callesen (later father of All Black John Callesen); and an unidentified visitor from Denmark. Mr A H Andersen is fourth from the left in the back row. The other figures are unidentified.
