This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 22 July 1961 "Well-drillers work ankle-deep in mud yesterday to test three bores to a depth of 50ft for an overhead bridge at the Milson deviation goods yards. The bores were being drilled approximately half way between the Rangitikei and Milson Line overbridges. When this photograph was taken the first bore had reached a depth of 40ft. The drillers are Messrs. O. Berghan (left) and R. Mackay."

Information subsequently received that the bore was drilled by Richardson Drilling.
