Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 16th March, 1963. "Pupils of the Carnavon Primary School had their last lesson at the school yesterday as the Wanganui Education Board has closed it down. In the top photograph pupils of the school gather their books, pads and pencil cases together in preparation for shifting to their new schools on Monday- either Rongotea or Glen Oroua. The bottom photograph shows the children with smiles of satisfaction on their faces after their party lunch yesterday. This was arranged by their parents to commemorate the closing down of the school. In the background is the chairman of the school committee (Mr A. S. Pedley, left) and the sole teacher of the school (Mr G. O'Neill)- (bottom photograph not included in negatives)."
