These images were taken for the September 24th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption: “…not all the boats made it through the Gorge and three men were injured in a spectacular collision just south of the Ballance Bridge when one boat crashed over the top of another. One of the seriously injured men, from the Rotorua boat "Ruffian," is pictured here as he is carried on a makeshift stretcher to an ambulance. The other boat involved was "The Ugly", from Martinborough.”
