"Palmerston North's Mayor, Mr. B. G. C. Elwood, this afternoon officially opened the Awapuni Recreation Centre. With an overall cost of about $42,000, the complex includes four full-size tennis courts, a large parking area, extensive landscaping to the surrounding area, and extensions to the park's pavillion costing $24,000. The centre was open for public inspection all afternoon. The new extentions to the pavilion include large windows which look on to the courts."
