“N.Z. School Kids Are Lucky”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the October 8th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption: “Maika gives some basketball coaching to Pahiatua Primary School pupils Kevin Ashwell (9), Alan Fultorı (9), David Downer (10) and Wayne Richardson (10).”
An excerpt from the article read: “New Zealand school children don't realise how lucky they are, says Fijian teacher Maika Namadu, who is now helping out at the Pahiatua Primary School. His visit to the Pahiatua area, to observe the New Zealand education system in action and also to do a bit of teaching himself, has been arranged by the Pahiatua Rotary Club. It's the first time the club has arranged such a visit, and Maika will be at schools in the Pahiatua area for the whole of the third term. He says New Zealand school children are lucky because of the facilities and equipment they can use, also the way the education system is geared.”
This image forms part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
