“People’s Free Servant is Three Years Old in P.N.”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the September 24th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper – the first of which was published with the caption: “Another group of Citizens’ Advice Bureau volunteers receives instructions in the art of telephone technique. Using the telephone is Marg Lloyd, while Mrs Mardon offers instruction.”
An excerpt from the article read: “This week the CAB [Citizens’ Advice Bureau] is three years old in Palmerston North. Despite the fact that its telephone number wasn’t listed in the telephone directory for the first two years, the agency has had more than 5000 calls in that time, 2500 of them this year. And hundreds of people come directly to the centre for help. ‘We step in sometimes where angels fear to tread,’ the branch’s secretary, Mrs Judith Woods, laughed. Mrs Mardon said the CAB has always received the utmost co-operation and help from any firm or organisation it has contacted.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
