In 1956 that Queen Elizabeth Technical College (QETC) in Rangitikei Street officially opened, replacing the Technical College in Princess Street. By the end of the 1960's QETC was converted into a secondary school, with a wider range of non-vocational courses offered to both girls and boys. It then became Queen Elizabeth College (QEC).
