Description

Written by Alice and Des Hunt-O'Keefe who grew up next to each other in Albert Street, Palmerston North. Des was the son of Jack and Mollie O'Keefe and Alice the daughter of Florence and Jim Fleck. Des and Alice, both widowed, married in 1994.

The manuscript records their memories of growing up in the 1930s. As well it records their memories of neighbours; Mr and Mrs Davis, Sybil Cook, Mr Newson, Mrs Stephens, Charlie Lloyd, Mr Bee, Mrs Robins (the school shop lady - Hokowhitu School), Mrs Wycherley, Mr Olsen, the Rawleigh man, Mr Dewar, Mrs Dodds. Also of local business owners; Mr Cockery (butcher), Mrs Scott (grocery-dairy), Mr Kjar (grocer), and family friend Jack Key.
