Members of the Palmerston North Acclimatisation Society are seen here in front of the small trout hatchery on the site of the present Peter Black Conservatory in the Esplanade. This hatchery reared trout fingerlings for the Manawatu River. The Palmerston North City Council moved that the hatchery be filled in, in 1927 (PNCC Minute Book, 1 August 1927). At front from left: R Lloyd (a dentist in The Square); Unknown; Percy Coleman; Gerald Weir; Walter Turner (at back); Joe Mayo (seated); rest unknown.
