Alf Pooley, from Auckland, won many competitions in the years 1910-11 and this photograph was probably taken around the same time. He was the Australian Amateur Heavy Weight Champion and the New Zealand Amateur Heavy Weight Champion in 1911. The figure on the left, perhaps a manager or trainer, is unidentified.
